All About Oils

Some of us are so scared of oils that it makes them want to run and hide. I know this feeling pretty well as I also did the same. Cleansers that strip your skin out of all its oils and using only oil-free moisturizers does not balance your skins oils.

If you take away all the oil from your skin, it will feel like you took away one of its main fuels. Which will make it produce even more oil to protect itself, in case you leave it oilless again.

For example you have dry skin but also have breakouts. The products you use to dry out the pimples may cause sensitivity. If you add an oil to you routine, you will help calm down your skin and produce less oil.

Some of us genetically have dry skin, some feel periodical dryness. This could be because of dry winter season, the heaters we use or not drinking enough water. Whatever the problem may be, all skin types can see benefits of using an oil. However it’s important to keep track of your skins needs every single day.

Because my skin is sensitive, I made checking ingredients lists my habit. I especially avoid mineral oil and shea butter. Mineral oil does nothing for your skin and is very cheap. It drives me crazy when I see expensive brands using it. Shea butter is harder for skin to break down than other oils. Which is why it may clog pores and cause sensitivity.

In addition to these, I try to avoid lavender, limonene and eucalyptus if they’re on the top of the ingredients lists, as they may cause sensitivity as well. (even though they smell amaaazing)

I apply oils after I’ve done my whole routine, on top of my moisturizer as my last step (except La Mer). As oils act as a barrier, it will not allow any active ingredients you apply on top to be absorbed.
