Skiing in Courchevel

I started skiing before I could even read. As I followed my mom with my skis crossed, I fell in love with this sport. As a kid who hated physical education in elementary school, me loving a sport probably surprised my mother too. We hadn’t had a ski trip like we had every year when I was a kid with family and friends in two years. We planned a trip to Courchevel this year to thoroughly enjoy skiing.

We landed in Lyon and after about two and a half hour car journey we arrived at Hotel Kilimandjaro in Courchevel. It consisted of several chalets. Large groups could also reserve an entire chalet. Each chalet had a small ski room, I’m guessing there was a ski room per 2-3 rooms. You could rent skis from the ski shop in the hotel which is what my mother did, whereas I brought my own skis. The concierge arranged a coach for us an hour later. We met our him in the ski room. He showed us the area and helped us improve our technique a bit. He was very sweet, he was saying “you do not have to ski perfectly, you should enjoy yourself!”

Les Trois Vallées; consists of three valleys that are linked with ski lifts: Saint Bon, Allues and Belleville. The world’s largest ski resort. Our hotel was in Courchevel 1850 located in Saint Bon. Courchevel is also divided into regions according to how high it’s located-Courchevel Le Praz, Courchevel 1550, Courchevel 1650 and Courchevel 1850.

The slopes might seem like they’re too big and confusing , but after every single lift there are giant maps and arrows indicating the names of the tracks and their difficulty. It’s impossible not to find a track for your level! There are also restaurants, cafes and benches around the slopes so you can take a break when you need to. If you want you can pack your lunch in your backpack and have a picnic on the benches.

Our hotel had a Michelin star restaurant, and every meal I had was extremely delicious. I would highly recommend to try the restaurant even if you’re staying somewhere else in the area. The employees also surprised me with their friendliness 🙂

The hotel’s spa belonged to La Praire . Therefore, shampoos and lotions in the room were their products. I especially loved the hair conditioner in particular. I wish they actually sold it!

I loved Courchevel and hope to go back next year. I hope you’ve enjoyed travelling with me.
